Our Week!

The first grade students have been learning so much this week.  We learned how to navigate the bookmarks on an Ipad,  find Google Classroom, take a picture and submit it to Classroom, and how to get on Zoom independently.  They also learned where all of their math and reading curriculum links were on the Ipad.  Mrs. Yantzie helped assist the students and was an invaluable asset and resource for all of us.

In reading the students have learned the new letter clusters ch, tch (after a short vowel), ph, and sh.  They have also been working on all of the vowel-consonant-e sounds and actions as we will be working on them for quite a few weeks.

In science we have started a new unit on sound.  They watched grains of rice move on tin cans when we hit a tin pan loudly with a spoon. They also flicked a ruler on a desk in different positions to emit different pitches of sound.  We watched different YouTube videos to help guide and expand our science vocabulary.

In math we have started to learn how to make tally charts and convert them into picture graphs.  The more difficult concept is learning how to interpret the graphs to answer questions.

In writing the students each wrote two letters to a veteran.  They are beginning to receive their replies at home.  The children were estatic to get their own mail!
