Superintendent
Greetings,
I am excited to be part of Shickley Public Schools. I’m a strong believer in the support and
opportunities small towns like Shickley provide youth through school and community efforts.
Shickley is a community with many great people who care about its future and about each
other. That sense of pride and ownership have served the community and school well and are
primary reasons I was interested in the superintendent position.
I grew up in Nelson, Nebraska and thoroughly enjoyed small town living and the wholesome
experiences it provided. I am now in my 29 th year as an educator. That time has been split
between K-12 schools and higher education settings. My teaching career began in Arcadia,
Nebraska where I served as an Industrial Tech teacher and coach. I also taught at Mankato,
Kansas and Deshler, Nebraska prior to my time as an instructor at Central Community College.
While at CCC, I worked in the Architectural Drafting and Design program and also occasionally
taught psychology courses. I then joined the faculty at UNK serving as a professor in the
Construction Management program. Most recently, I was the Director for the Nebraska Center
for Advanced Professional Studies (NCAPS). It encompasses the Career and College Readiness
programs offered through the South Central Unified District.
Starting from a young age, I worked for my family’s construction business and have done so for
more than 40 years on a part-time basis. We’ve built dozens of homes in Nuckolls and Clay
counties and worked on countless other building projects. While I am new to the
superintendent position, the wide variety of experiences in my career have helped me
understand the importance of connecting with people and the processes that will position
Shickley Schools for a strong future.
My wife Chanda and I tied the knot 22 years ago in Oahu. We have continued to travel since
that time and enjoy seeing new places and cultures. I have been to all 50 states and a number
of other countries, mostly tropical. We have two boys: Avery and Ashton. Avery is currently 19
years old and Ashton is 14. Chanda works in Grand Island at Riverside Golf as the Events
Coordinator and is always on the go. My pastimes include anything outdoors: hunting, fishing,
riding ATVs, and kayaking the Little Blue River top my list. My parents continue to reside in the
Nelson area where they have lived for more than 50 years.
My primary task this first year is to understand the culture of Shickley and capitalize on the
things that make the community and school such a great environment for kids. As we look
toward the future, the vision for Shickley is very positive and I will do my best to lead, manage,
and ensure a strong and stable school for decades to come.
