January update!

The first graders have been learning a lot about Martin Luther King, Jr.  They have listened to multiple biographies and watched a few videos about his life.  They are currently writing about their dream for the world.  In math we learned how to find all of the ways to represent a number.  We are now focusing on the following ideas:  one more, one less, ten more, and ten less of a number.   In reading they are working on the two sounds of the digraph oo, which can be difficult to apply.  In grammar we are using the contractions with the word 'not' in them.  The children finished earning the letters for the word 'pajamas' so they were able to wear their pajamas for a day and then have a juice box.  They are now working on earning the privilege to not wear shoes in my room for a day.
