Interim Superintendent Contract
I am excited to be joining Shickley Public Schools as your interim superintendent! SPS has a long tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and a strong reputation as a community supportive of their schools. My thanks to the board for offering me the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community. I am eager to learn more about all great qualities and traditions that make you proud of being a Longhorn - and Eagle!
A brief bio about our family: I am married to Kristine, who serves as the Library/Media Specialist at Blair Middle School. We have two daughters, Lauren, who lives in Omaha and is a PACU nurse at UNMC; and Carli who lives in Lincoln and is a recent 2021 graduate of UNL (and needs to find a job!!). We also have a beloved family pet Cooper, a 12 year-old Beagle. We live in Blair, NE but I will be looking for a place to live in Shickley during my interim tenure. Kris' parents farm and live near Pender, and my mother (retired teacher) lives in Elkhorn. My father (retired teacher) passed away in 2004.
For more than 34 years, I have served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent in Nebraska. I began my education career just north of Shickley at Fairmont Jr/Sr High School (before consolidation), and then at Springfield-Platteview High School teaching industrial technology and coaching football, basketball, track, and sponsoring several clubs and activities in both locations. I then served at Blair High School as an assistant principal and then at Ralston High School School as principal. I then served Blair as superintendent until my retirement in June 2018. Not being a very good retiree, I then worked for Midland University supervising practicum students and student teachers, and also worked for ESU 2 in West Point teaching classes in their educational career pathway program in conjunction with Wayne State College. During the 2019-20 school year, I served as the interim superintendent in Nebraska City Public Schools. I also provide consulting services to school districts in the areas of finance and operations, human resources, leadership development, and board organization and development. Like all of you, I learned new ways to connect with people to provide learning and services during the past school year.
My primary tasks for the upcoming school year will be to learn from all of you about SPS, develop positive relationships, and maintain momentum and work in regard to strategic plans and goals, as well as to lead, manage, and perform all tasks associated with the office of superintendent.
