January bulletin:

The students have been learning about the influential life of Martin Luther King, Jr.  They wrote their own dream for the world and then compared Rosa Parks and Dr. King’s life.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle has been one of the themes in Science.  They saw many You-Tube videos explaining how they can change the course of their world.  One of the videos showed how paper was made and how plastics were recycled.

Three-letter clusters, such as spl, spr, thr, etc., were the main focus of reading this past week.  They also focused heavily on using compare / contrast maps when discussing stories.  The students learned ghost letters (wr, gn, kn) as well as the actions that go with them.  Currently, the students have learned 30 letter clusters to help them learn how to read and write.  Please continue to have your child read their weekly word chart each day.

In math the students focused on subtracting 2 from any number and how to add 2-digit numbers using their tens / ones rods.  They use many manipulatives to help them understand the processes.

The children are very excited to celebrate the 100th day of school on January 28th!
