Philosophy of Teaching/Why I Teach:
As an educational guide, I enjoy designing and implementing curriculum that challenge students to develop skills necessary for their current and future educational and professional endeavors. I encourage students to engage in meaningful exploration, think critically, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and create finished products they are proud of.
Favorite Part of Teaching:
It is difficult to choose a single favorite part, but one of the best things about teaching is that I am actively engaged in the learning process on a daily basis. I personally search out tools and strategies for use in the classroom and try new things, but I also learn from students as I facilitate their learning and enjoy the “aha moments” when those particularly evasive concepts are grasped.
I have taught junior high, high school, and dual credit English and Language Arts classes at Central Catholic High School of West Point, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, McCool Junction Public Schools, and Shickley Public Schools.
I write literary fiction and enjoy reading, problem-solving, working collaboratively, and taking part in activities that foster creativity.
My husband Derek and I have been happily married since 1998, and we were blessed with twin daughters, Sophie and Stella, in 2007. We have a sweet, little Shih Tzu named Button.
