Salt water density experiment

Inserted Image

Eli reminded me that it was time to have another experiment so we used raw eggs and 2 cups of plain water.  We hypothesized that the eggs would sink when we put them in the water.  Then I added 1/3 cup of salt to one cup and stirred the mixture until it was mostly dissolved.  We had various guesses about what would happen when we added the egg this time.  They were thrilled when it floated!  We learned that the salt made the water more dense (more heavy in much simpler terms) and, thus allowed the egg to float on top as it was less dense.

 We miss Veronika!
