Busy, Busy, Busy!

The Shickley first graders have been very busy this week!  In phonics, I taught the students when to use the -dge and -tch in words and the students read soft g and c words, such as cent and gem.  In reading the focus has been on learning about how fun it is to make predictions when reading a story and the importance of understanding the main idea of a selection.  They have been learning about "My Plate" as well as which foods are in each food group.  In math we have worked on writing fact families and related subtraction facts.  We are now learning about time.  In science they watched YouTube videos on coral animals eating, grizzly bears teaching their cubs how to catch salmon, and several mammal videos to complement the concepts being taught.  We wrote our Santa letters and emailed them to The Signal to be printed.  From there the editor will forward them to Santa.  They also wrote why they love Christmas using our Highlighter Method. So as you can see, we have been very productive!
