Philosophy of Teaching: For me the most important part of teaching is
giving the students an opportunity to be themselves within a community
atmosphere. Once a student comes to their own self-actualization, they
are able to really appreciate who they are and who others are around
them. In today's society, things are changing all around us. Because
of this, I try to focus our classroom learning on "How to Learn"
instead of "What to Learn". This will enable students to adjust to new
and oncoming ideas throughout their lifetime.
Favorite Part of Teaching: Daily interaction with the students and
being a apart of their lives. Everyday presents students with new
challenges and situations, many of which they are seeing for the first
time. Being able to help and guide them through these obstacles on
their way to adulthood provides me the satisfaction of making a
Education Experience: First year of teaching. Student-taught 7th grade
Math and Social Studies at Seward Middle School. Also had 26 4th
graders at Waverly Intermediate School.
Hobbies and Family: I'm from Davenport, NE originally, where my family
farmed just south of town. I have four younger siblings. Lichelle, who
is a Senior at Hastings College, going into teaching. Nolan, a junior,
at Bruning-Davenport. Jill, a sophomore, at Bruning-Davenport, and
Eric who is a 3rd grader there. My hobbies include playing Fastpitch
softball in the summer for John's Plumbing in Cortland, NE (south of
Lincoln). I like to work in my yard. I enjoy most all sports and
